Liebe Allgemeine Ingenieurwissenschaften (AIW) und Engineering Science (ES) Ersties, herzlich willkommen an der Technischen Universität Hamburg (TUHH).

Eine Sache vorweg: Ihr könnt in den ersten Wochen eures Studiums fast nichts falsch machen! Vorlesungen und Hörsaalübungen könnt ihr ohne Anmeldung besuchen. Für Gruppenübungen solltet ihr versuchen, euch anzumelden, um einen Sitzplatz im Raum sicher zu haben. Ihr könnt aber auch ohne Anmeldung dazukommen und meistens wird das Anmeldeverfahren in der ersten Vorlesung auch erklärt. Generell ist es kein Muss, aber vielleicht eine gute Idee, zur ersten Vorlesung in euren Fächern zu gehen. Die erste wirklich wichtige Sache, an die ihr unbedingt denken müsst, ist die Anmeldung zu euren Klausuren. Das ist aber erst ab Dezember möglich und ihr bekommt dann auch nochmal eine E-Mail dazu. Bis dahin macht euch also nicht zu viele Gedanken über formale Sachen. Versucht am Anfang so viele Veranstaltungen wie möglich zu besuchen und die ersten spannenden Wochen eures Studiums und insbesondere die Orientierungseinheit (OE) zu genießen.

Die OE wird von uns, dem Fachschaftsrat (FSR) AIW/ES/MED, organisiert und soll den neuen Ersties die Möglichkeit geben, sich untereinander kennenzulernen und einen ersten Überblick über den Alltag am Campus zu bekommen. Sie besteht aus verschiedenen Events, die am Campus und/oder in Hamburg stattfinden.

Highlight der OE ist wie jedes Jahr die OE-Fahrt, bei der wir mit euch gemeinsam ein Wochenende wegfahren, uns und euch untereinander besser kennenlernen können und wir vor allem ganz viel Spaß haben werden. Weitere Infos zur AIW/ES OE-Fahrt erhalten alle AIW- und ES Ersties per E-Mail. Alle OE-Veranstaltungen findet ihr auch in dem OE-Kalender hier auf der Website oder in der WhatsApp Gruppe. Alle AIW und ES Ersties bekommen eine E-Mail von uns. In dieser findet ihr unter anderem
einen Beitrittslink zu einer WhatsApp Gruppe. Dort werden halbwegs wichtige und sehr aktuelle Informationen von uns geteilt und ihr habt die Möglichkeit, euch zu vernetzen und Fragen zu stellen.

Bereits vor der OE finden die Brückenkurse statt. Die Teilnahme ist nicht zwingend notwendig, aber kann den Start ins Studium deutlich vereinfachen, insbesondere weil dort auch die Anmeldung zu den verschiedenen IT- und Verwaltungssystemen erklärt wird. Informationen dazu findet ihr hier.

Das Tutorienprogramm StartING@TUHH erleichtert Studienanfängern im ersten Semester den Einstieg ins Ingenieurstudium an der TUHH. Das Programm unterstützt dabei, den individuellen Studienerfolg zu optimieren. StartING bietet euch das ganze Semester über studienbegleitende Tutorien, in denen unter anderem Lernstrategien, Möglichkeiten zu Auslandsaufenthalten, grundlegende Fragen zu „Wie erstelle ich eigentlich meinen Stundenplan?“ und Prüfungs- und Studienordnung geklärt werden. Also kurz gesagt ist das eine gute Sache, um euch das Ankommen an der Uni so einfach wie möglich zu machen.

Die Anmeldung für das Studienjahr 2026/2027 erfolgt in der Orientierungswoche vom 12. bis 18. Oktober 2026. Nach der Auftaktveranstaltung startet direkt das erste Tutorium. Weitere Informationen findet ihr hier.

Falls noch Fragen offen geblieben sind, fragt gerne nach. Dazu könnt ihr uns entweder in der Uni während Veranstaltungen direkt ansprechen oder uns in unserem Büro im E‑Gebäude besuchen (Raum E 0.099). Dear General Engineering Science (AIW) and Engineering Science (ES) first‑semester students, a warm welcome to Hamburg University of Technology (TUHH).

One thing upfront: You can hardly do anything wrong in the first weeks of your studies! You can attend lectures and lecture‑hall exercises without registering. For group exercises, you should try to register so you have a guaranteed seat in the room. But you can also join without registration, and the registration procedure is usually explained in the first lecture anyway. In general, it’s not mandatory, but it might be a good idea to attend the first lecture of each course.

The first truly important thing you absolutely must remember is registering for your exams. However, this is only possible starting in December, and you will receive an email about it. Until then, don’t worry too much about formalities. Try to attend as many events as possible at the beginning and enjoy the exciting first weeks of your studies — especially the orientation week (OE).

The OE is organized by us, the Student Council (FSR) AIW/ES/MED, and is meant to give new first‑semester students the chance to get to know each other and gain an initial overview of everyday life on campus. It consists of various events that take place on campus and/or in Hamburg.

The highlight of the OE, as every year, is the OE trip, where we spend a weekend away together, get to know each other better, and — most importantly — have lots of fun. All AIW and ES first‑semester students will receive more information about the OE trip via email. You can also find all OE events in the OE calendar on the website or in the WhatsApp group.

All AIW and ES first‑semester students receive an email from us. Among other things, it contains a link to join a WhatsApp group. There, we share somewhat important and very up‑to‑date information, and you have the opportunity to connect with others and ask questions.

Before the OE, the bridging courses take place. Participation is not mandatory, but it can make starting your studies much easier — especially because the registration for the various IT and administrative systems is explained there. You can find information about this here.

The StartING@TUHH tutorial program helps first‑semester students get started with engineering studies at TUHH. The program supports you in optimizing your individual study success. Throughout the semester, StartING offers study‑supporting tutorials in which learning strategies, opportunities for studying abroad, basic questions like “How do I actually create my timetable?” and exam/study regulations are explained. In short: it’s a great way to make arriving at university as easy as possible.

Registration for the 2026/2027 academic year takes place during orientation week from October 12 to 18, 2026. After the kickoff event, the first tutorial starts immediately. You can find more information here.
